Orifice Flow
Incompressible flow through an orifice from differential pressure. Not a metering-standard calculation.
Fluid & PressureInstrumentation & Controls
Incompressible flow through an orifice from differential pressure. Not a metering-standard calculation.
App id: FLUID-12. Reference version 1.0.
How to fill it
Fill the inputs. The tool shows the outputs.
On the tool screen, Calc is the working sheet. Presets stores values you reuse. Reference is the formula, assumptions, and provenance below.
Formula
Q = Cd A √(2 ΔP / ρ)Inputs
| Name | Unit |
|---|---|
| Orifice diameter | mm |
| Differential pressure (camera) | kPa |
| Density | kg/m3 |
| Discharge coefficient Cd | 1 |
Outputs
| Name | Unit |
|---|---|
| Volumetric flow (hero result) | m3/s |
| Orifice area | mm2 |
| Velocity through orifice | m/s |
Diagnose
Observations are context. They do not pass or fail a structure. See Diagnose.
| When | Observation | Severity |
|---|---|---|
Cd > 1 | Discharge coefficient above 1 | caution |
Cd ≤ 1 | Incompressible orifice estimate | info |
Assumptions
- Incompressible fluid. Cd is supplied by the user. Not ISO 5167 / AGA-3 compliant metering.
Provenance
- Incompressible orifice relation. Permanent installations need geometry, taps, and the applicable standard.
