Assets
An asset is a thing. It can move. It does not need its own GPS.
An asset is a physical thing you work on: a router, a rectifier, a test point, an HVAC condenser.
It is not a place. That is a location. It is not the reading. That is a record.
Create an asset
- Open Locations.
- Switch to the Assets pane.
- Tap New asset.
- Enter a name.
- Kind and identifier are optional (for example Rectifier, R-23).
- Pick a location if the thing sits there now. You can leave location empty.
- Save.
You can also add an asset from a location screen.
Move an asset
Edit the asset and change its location. The asset keeps the same identity. Do not delete it and recreate it.
GPS stays on the location (where the place is) and on the record (where you stood when you measured). The asset does not need its own lat/lon.
Records
A record may name an asset, a location, both, or neither.
An equipment inspection can name the asset and the location. A walking survey can name the location and leave the asset empty. A quick calculation in a garage can name neither.
Project scope
Assets on the list belong to the active project. An asset can move between locations on that project.
