HVAC Sensible Capacity from Airflow

Sensible coil capacity from airflow and ΔT (or return − supply). Same physics as THERM-04, labeled in Btu/h and tons.

Thermal & HVAC

Sensible coil capacity from airflow and ΔT (or return − supply). Same physics as THERM-04, labeled in Btu/h and tons.

App id: THERM-22. Reference version 1.0.

How to fill it

Fill the inputs. The tool shows the outputs.

On the tool screen, Calc is the working sheet. Presets stores values you reuse. Reference is the formula, assumptions, and provenance below.

Formula

Q = ρ V̇ cp ΔT;  tons = Q / 12,000 Btu/h

Inputs

NameUnit
Airflow (camera)ft3/min
ΔT (optional if supply/return) (optional)deltaF
Return temperature (optional)F
Supply temperature (optional)F
Air density (optional)kg/m3
Specific heat (optional)J/kg-K

Outputs

NameUnit
Sensible capacity (hero result)Btu/h
Sensible tonston
ΔT useddeltaF

Diagnose

This tool does not attach diagnose observations.

Assumptions

  • Enter ΔT, or return and supply. Cooling: return warmer than supply gives a positive load.

Provenance

  • Sensible only — latent coil load is THERM-05. Standard-air defaults match THERM-04.
