Electrical & Power
DC Power Loss
Power dissipated in wiring, Ethernet PoE loops, or another resistive element.
Electrical & PowerNetworking & Communications
Power dissipated in wiring, Ethernet PoE loops, or another resistive element.
App id: ELEC-19. Reference version 1.0.
How to fill it
Fill the inputs. The tool shows the outputs.
On the tool screen, Calc is the working sheet. Presets stores values you reuse. Reference is the formula, assumptions, and provenance below.
Formula
P = I²R = Vdrop × IInputs
| Name | Unit |
|---|---|
| Current (camera) | A |
| Resistance (optional) | ohm |
| Voltage drop (optional) | V |
| Load power (optional) | W |
| Duration (optional) | h |
Outputs
| Name | Unit |
|---|---|
| Power loss (hero result) | W |
| Voltage drop | V |
| Energy loss | Wh |
Diagnose
Observations are context. They do not pass or fail a structure. See Diagnose.
Screening bands in the app: < 1% · 1–5% · > 5%.
| When | Observation | Severity |
|---|---|---|
loss fraction < 1% | Low wiring loss | info |
loss fraction ≤ 5% | Moderate wiring loss | caution |
loss fraction > 5% | High wiring loss | warning |
Assumptions
- Direct current. Enter resistance or voltage drop with current.
- Load power is only used for context bands, not the loss calculation.
Provenance
- Joule heating P = I²R. Loss bands are relative to optional load power.
