Cable Resistance
Conductor resistance from resistivity, length, and cross-sectional area.
Conductor resistance from resistivity, length, and cross-sectional area.
App id: CABLE-01. Reference version 1.1.
How to fill it
Fill the inputs. The tool shows the outputs.
On the tool screen, Calc is the working sheet. Presets stores values you reuse. Reference is the formula, assumptions, and provenance below.
Formula
R = ρL / AInputs
| Name | Unit |
|---|---|
| Resistivity | ohm-m |
| Length | ft |
| Cross-sectional area (optional) | mm2 |
| Diameter (optional) | mm |
Outputs
| Name | Unit |
|---|---|
| Resistance (hero result) | ohm |
Diagnose
This tool does not attach diagnose observations.
Assumptions
- Copper 1.68×10⁻⁸ Ω·m is a built-in default the user may enter, not auto-filled.
- Enter area or round-conductor diameter. Diameter is ignored when area is supplied.
- Uniform cross-section. Choose one-way or round-trip length before using the result in a voltage-drop screen.
Provenance
- Uniform-conductor resistance R = ρL / A.
