Link Budget
Expected received power from a complete RF link. Optional fade margin when sensitivity is given.
RF, Radio & WirelessNetworking & Communications
Expected received power from a complete RF link. Optional fade margin when sensitivity is given.
App id: RF-06. Reference version 1.0.
How to fill it
Fill the inputs. The tool shows the outputs.
On the tool screen, Calc is the working sheet. Presets stores values you reuse. Reference is the formula, assumptions, and provenance below.
Formula
Pr = P_TX − TX losses + G_TX − path − other + G_RX − RX lossesInputs
| Name | Unit |
|---|---|
| TX power | dBm |
| TX cable loss | dB |
| TX connector loss | dB |
| TX antenna gain | dBi |
| Path loss | dB |
| Other path loss (optional) | dB |
| RX antenna gain | dBi |
| RX cable loss | dB |
| RX connector loss | dB |
| RX sensitivity (optional) | dBm |
Outputs
| Name | Unit |
|---|---|
| EIRP | dBm |
| Received power (hero result) | dBm |
| Fade margin | dB |
Diagnose
Observations are context. They do not pass or fail a structure. See Diagnose.
Screening bands in the app: Low · Marginal · Good · Large.
| When | Observation | Severity |
|---|---|---|
fade margin (dB) < 10 | Low | warning |
fade margin (dB) < 20 | Marginal | caution |
fade margin (dB) < 30 | Good | info |
fade margin (dB) ≥ 30 | Large | info |
Assumptions
- Does not add terrain, rain, foliage, or interference unless entered as other path loss.
- Leave other path loss blank for none. Leave RX sensitivity blank to skip fade margin.
Provenance
- Link-budget model. Path loss may come from RF-05 or a measured/estimated value.
