Radio Horizon
Geometric radio line-of-sight distance from two antenna heights. Estimate only.
Geometric radio line-of-sight distance from two antenna heights. Estimate only.
App id: RF-09. Reference version 1.0.
How to fill it
Fill the inputs. The tool shows the outputs.
On the tool screen, Calc is the working sheet. Presets stores values you reuse. Reference is the formula, assumptions, and provenance below.
Formula
d = √(2 k R h1) + √(2 k R h2)Inputs
| Name | Unit |
|---|---|
| Antenna height A | m |
| Antenna height B | m |
| Earth-radius factor k (optional) | 1 |
Outputs
| Name | Unit |
|---|---|
| Horizon distance (hero result) | km |
Diagnose
This tool does not attach diagnose observations.
Assumptions
- Smooth Earth. Does not replace a terrain path profile.
- Leave k blank to use 4/3. Enter 1 for geometric horizon.
Provenance
- k = 4/3 is the common radio-horizon Earth-radius factor. k = 1 is geometric.
