Packet Loss
Loss count and ratio from transmitted and received packet counts.
Networking & Communications
Loss count and ratio from transmitted and received packet counts.
App id: NET-07. Reference version 1.0.
How to fill it
Fill the inputs. The tool shows the outputs.
On the tool screen, Calc is the working sheet. Presets stores values you reuse. Reference is the formula, assumptions, and provenance below.
Formula
loss = (sent − received) / sentInputs
| Name | Unit |
|---|---|
| Packets sent | 1 |
| Packets received | 1 |
Outputs
| Name | Unit |
|---|---|
| Lost packets | 1 |
| Loss (hero result) | % |
Diagnose
Observations are context. They do not pass or fail a structure. See Diagnose.
Screening bands in the app: 0% · >0–0.1% · 0.1–1% · >1%.
| When | Observation | Severity |
|---|---|---|
Loss = 0 | No observed packet loss | info |
Loss ≤ 0.001 | Small loss observed | info |
Loss ≤ 0.01 | Noticeable packet loss | caution |
Loss > 0.01 | Significant packet loss | warning |
Assumptions
- Received cannot exceed sent. Bands are application-dependent context, not pass/fail.
Provenance
- Simple sent/received loss ratio. Not a BER measurement.
