Frame Efficiency
Modeled payload rate after a stated frame/protocol overhead. Not a universal Ethernet number.

App id: NET-13. Reference version 1.0.
How to fill it
Fill the inputs. The tool shows the outputs.
On the tool screen, Calc is the working sheet. Presets stores values you reuse. Reference is the formula, assumptions, and provenance below.
Formula
efficiency = payload / (payload + overhead); payload rate = line rate × efficiencyInputs
| Name | Unit |
|---|---|
| Payload size | B |
| Overhead size | B |
| Line rate | Gbit/s |
Outputs
| Name | Unit |
|---|---|
| Efficiency (hero result) | % |
| Overhead | % |
| Effective payload rate | Mbit/s |
Diagnose
This tool does not attach diagnose observations.
Assumptions
- Overhead is an input, not a built-in Ethernet/IP/TCP constant.
- Does not model interframe gap, preamble, or VLAN tags unless included in overhead.
Provenance
- Simplified on-wire efficiency model. Encapsulation varies by protocol and PHY framing.
