Torque From Power
Shaft torque from mechanical power and rotational speed.
Mechanical & Motion
Shaft torque from mechanical power and rotational speed.
App id: MECH-02. Reference version 1.0.
How to fill it
Fill the inputs. The tool shows the outputs.
On the tool screen, Calc is the working sheet. Presets stores values you reuse. Reference is the formula, assumptions, and provenance below.
Formula
τ = P / ω, ω = 2πfInputs
| Name | Unit |
|---|---|
| Shaft power | kW |
| Rotational speed | rpm |
| Measured torque (optional) | N-m |
Outputs
| Name | Unit |
|---|---|
| Torque (hero result) | N-m |
| Angular velocity | rad/s |
Diagnose
Observations are context. They do not pass or fail a structure. See Diagnose.
| When | Observation | Severity |
|---|---|---|
frequency hz < 10 | Very low rotational speed | caution |
frequency hz > 20000 | Very high rotational speed | caution |
ratio ≤ 0.95 and ratio < 1.05 | Power balance inconsistent | caution |
Assumptions
- Power is shaft power, not electrical input, unless that is what you entered.
- Optional measured torque is only used to screen power balance.
Provenance
- P = τω with rotational frequency converted to rad/s.
